As time goes on, fashions change and technology develops. I was intrigued and excited to trial a Ali-Dibond Butlerfinish print sold by Saal-Digital . If you have read my previous blog, you will already know I was blown away by the quality of their photobooks. Saal-Digital provided this product to me for free in return for a review but no other payments have been made. All views are my own.
If like me, the walls of your house are adorned with canvases, please read on... this product will make you want all your images reprinted and you will probably never buy canvas again!
What are Alu-Dibond Butlerfinish prints?
In my opinion, this artistic and contemporary method of printing your images offers a more stylish and elegant alternative to canvas printing, which can often leave images looking flat and lifeless.
The 3mm thick aluminium panel can be made in any size - no restrictions. You can go as big as your image quality will take you and the good thing about the Saal-Digital design software is that it tells you when your image quality is being compromised meaning you never order an image that will be distorted. If you despise housework then you will love the fact that the thickness of this product reduces dust collection on the frame, unlike some of my existing canvases that constantly need wiping, often resulting in ink loss and smudging. At 60x30cm, my image has remained pin sharp and the detail is emphasised by the light reflecting nature of the metal.
The printing process uses a 6-colour UV direct method instead of the usual 4 and includes the use of light inks. This method of printing means the colours are resistant to sunlight fade and are waterproof. The photo on my panel contains many pink tones from light baby pink through to hot and cerise pinks and each colour is rich and vibrant, a true reflection of the original digital image, The metallic finish adds a subtle sheen, making the highlights pop in certain lights, giving an almost 3D effect and an added WOW factor. You can customise your panel by choosing a mounting option from the different methods available allowing you to hang your print flat or stood off from the wall.
Saal- Digital home decor products allow you to take your art outdoors! The brushed- finished surface means the product can be hung outdoors as well as indoors and it can even be displayed in damper environments such as bathrooms. I intend to use the image (and future purchases) to "decorate" the fence in my garden by my seated BBQ area.
Price wise, I think it is really reasonable compared with other new and designer products on the market. My panel was 60cm in length by 30cm in height and would have cost £50. I know some people will have paid double that for a canvas print of a similar size and by investing in the aluminium finish, I believe the image will last for many years without risking fade.
To find a fault is again tricky but during my test I did managed to dent a corner. It doesn't ruin the product but care must be given when hanging as a drop to the floor will cause minor damage.
I fully intend to try further images on this product, including one in black and white, which I think will really come to life on the surface and I don't think I will ever buy expensive canvas prints ever again.
Until next time, Smile for Camera!
